There are many inflammatory conditions and diseases associated with the loss of tight junction integrity and barrier function.  Examples outside of celiac disease, IBD, Type 1 Diabetes, and asthma include primary biliary cirrhosis, acute inflammatory condition, autoimmune hepatitis, COPD, congestive heart failure and interstitial pneumonitis.

Future clinical applications for regulation of barrier function are widespread and include ischemia /reperfusion, renal failure, thyroid disease, neurological, pulmonary and cardiac therapeutics, and agents for inflammatory process modulation and restoration of organ function.
